Chess

I started playing chess at age 5. Over the next two decades I earned the National Master and Candidate Master titles, competed in national and international events, and built a network of players, coaches, and friends across the country. It's shaped how I approach problems: staying patient, thinking a few steps ahead, and sitting with a hard position until it resolves.

TVCL runs low-cost USCF tournaments and free classes for students across the Bay Area, and puts its profits back into chess through donations to charitable chess organizations and funding for next events.

• Organized 14 USCF tournaments (~80 players each) and two state events (~230 players each), serving as chief tournament director.
• Led a team of six officers, built a partnership with Mathnasium, and coached TVCL's four-player team to the 2023 CalChess State Team Championship.
• Raised $7,000+ for charitable chess organizations on $40,000+ in event revenue.
